How to Put IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV Without Adding a Box

Setting it up

1. Decide whether the television should run the player at all

   Worth two minutes before you start. Look up the model year from the code on the back or under Settings, Support, About This TV. A set from 2020 onward has enough processor to run a player comfortably, and keeping everything on one remote with no extra box is the tidier answer. A 2016 or 2017 set will run the same apps, but the guide will draw slowly and the app will take several seconds to open. On those, a cheap stick in a spare HDMI port gives a faster player on the same panel, and the panel is the part you paid for.

2. Open the Samsung App Store on the set

   Press Home, move across to Apps, and use the search icon in the top corner of that screen. There is no browser install, no APK and no developer mode involved anywhere in this; if a guide you are reading mentions any of those, it was written for a different platform and will not apply to your television.

3. Pick between the free player and the light one

   IPTV Smarters costs nothing and carries the full guide, catch-up and on-demand sections, which makes it the default choice. Smart IPTV asks a small one-off fee for each television and gives you far less interface in return, and on an older set that leanness is the point: it stays responsive where the heavier player does not. Install whichever suits the set you decided about in the first step, then open it once.

4. Hand the player your line, by whichever route it expects

   The two apps ask for completely different things, which surprises people who have set up one and then the other. In IPTV Smarters, choose Login with Xtream Codes and enter the server address with its http:// and port, the username and the password. Smart IPTV has no login screen at all: it displays a MAC address, and you take that to siptv.app/mylist on a phone or laptop and send your M3U link to it. Write the MAC down before you walk away from the television.

5. Close the app properly and reopen it

   Not a pause, a full close, then open it again. The channel list and the guide load on that second run rather than the first, and a set that looks empty is usually one that was never actually restarted. Once you are in, the channel list button on the remote is the quickest way through the groups, and it is a great deal faster than the arrow keys on a list this long.

6. Turn off the motion processing before you judge the picture

   This is the step that changes what football looks like, and it lives in the television rather than the app. Open Settings, Picture, Expert Settings, Auto Motion Plus, and set it off or to Custom with the blur and judder sliders low. Samsung ships it on, and on a live sports feed it invents frames and smears the crowd. Then play a 4K channel followed by its HD twin from the same category and watch the same movement in both. A clear difference means the chain is working. No difference means the limit is the connection, not the set.

When the picture is wrong

The app is not in the store in this country

Samsung varies its catalogue by region and quietly drops listings. IPTV Smarters is stocked in nearly every market, so start there. Changing the region under Settings is possible on most sets but resets other things with it, so treat it as the second option rather than the first. If neither app appears at all, ask support which player is currently listed for your region rather than sideloading, which Tizen will not allow you to do anyway.

Smart IPTV says the playlist has expired

That message is about the app and not about your subscription, which is the part everybody reads backwards. The app stores one playlist against the television MAC address, and reinstalling the app or factory-resetting the set wipes it. Upload the M3U again at siptv.app/mylist against the same MAC and it comes straight back. If the MAC itself changed, the set was reset harder than you thought and support will reissue the link.

Everything works but the guide takes several seconds to draw

This is the older-set problem showing itself, and no setting inside the app will fix it because the processor is doing all it can. Reduce what you are asking it to hold: switch off every category you do not watch so the app indexes a much shorter list, and use Smart IPTV rather than Smarters if you have both. If the set is from 2016 or 2017 and you want it to feel quick, the honest fix is a stick on a spare input.
