How to Add an IPTV Line to TiViMate on Android TV and Firestick

Setting it up

1. Decide whether this device can carry the grid

   Two questions, both answered before you install anything. The first is the operating system: TiViMate exists only on Android, so Android TV, Google TV, a Firestick and the generic Android boxes qualify, while an Apple TV, a Samsung panel and an LG panel do not, whatever the similarly named listings in those stores suggest. The second is memory. The cheapest boxes ship with a gigabyte of RAM, and on those the grid is slow to draw and slower to scroll. Two gigabytes is the point below which the experience stops being the reason you came.

2. Install it the way the platform allows

   Android TV and Google TV carry it in the Play Store, where it installs like any ordinary app. A Firestick has no listing at all and needs a sideload through Downloader, which the Firestick guide takes step by step. A phone or tablet can install it from Play as well, though the layout is built for a remote and a large screen rather than a touchscreen. On Apple, Samsung or LG hardware, stop here and use IPTV Smarters on that screen instead.

3. Add the line as an Xtream login, not a playlist

   Open it and choose Add playlist, then pick Xtream Codes login from the two options offered. Enter the server address with its http:// and port, then the username and password from your activation message, and press Next. It will not ask you for an M3U link and does not want one. If a field for an M3U URL is showing, you took the other route: go back and choose Xtream Codes, because the guide data and the on-demand library only arrive properly through that path.

4. Name it and let the first load finish

   Give the playlist a name you will recognise later if you ever add a second, then leave it alone while the channels and the programme data come down. It will ask which categories to include. That choice is reversible from Settings at any point, so pick broadly now and prune once you know what you actually watch. A first load across a list this size takes a minute or two, and every load after it is markedly quicker because the app caches what it already has.

5. Set the guide to refresh and the decoder to hardware

   Under Settings, TV guide, set the refresh interval to every 12 hours, which keeps the grid current without hammering the connection. The guide source travels with the Xtream login, so unlike some players there is no separate EPG address to paste anywhere. Then open the playback settings and set the decoder to hardware, so the chip unpacks the stream rather than the main processor. On a stick, software decoding at 4K will run the processor hot and smear fast motion long before it fails outright.

6. Check what you are getting, then decide about a licence

   Play a 4K channel, then its HD twin in the same category, and watch a moving crowd rather than the station logo. If the two are indistinguishable, the ceiling is the panel or the line into the house, not TiViMate. Once the picture is right, the paid licence is worth considering: it is bought in the separate TiViMate Companion app on a phone rather than inside TiViMate on the television, which trips up nearly everyone. It runs about $9.99 a year or a one-off lifetime licence in the mid-thirties, with a seven-day trial, and it unlocks recording, multi-view and multiple playlists.

When the picture is wrong

The login is accepted but the grid stays empty

TiViMate will report a successful connection and then show nothing when the account reaches a server that answers without content, which usually means the port in the server address is wrong rather than the credentials. Retype the whole address by hand, port included. Where it really is the credentials, the password is the likelier of the two, because text lifted out of a chat frequently carries an invisible space at the end that no screen will show you.

One channel freezes for a second every few minutes while the rest are fine

A fault affecting a single channel and nothing else is almost never the line. That channel is carried at a higher bitrate than its neighbours, and the device is emptying its buffer faster than the connection refills it. Raise the buffer size in the playback settings, which trades a slower channel change for a steadier picture. If it persists on a wireless connection, this is the channel that will tell you the last three metres are the weak link.

Recording and multi-view are greyed out after paying

The licence attaches to the Google account that bought it in the Companion app, so this is what it looks like when the television is signed in to a different account from the phone. Check both, then open Companion again and let it push the licence across. Nothing needs reinstalling and no playlist is lost while you sort it out.
